Addressing the Impact and

Trauma of Migration

Addressing the Impact and Trauma of Migration (AITM) is an interactive seminar for those impacted by migration, directly or indirectly. The overall goal is to promote the wellbeing of everyone through increased awareness and tools for addressing trauma, reducing harms and fostering healthy community integration.

Understanding Migration Trauma and Stressors

Migration presents challenges.

Forced migration faced by many today - refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers and displaced persons - is especially challenging as they experience the stress, loss and pain of leaving home and integration into a new reality. Migration also impacts those left behind as well as the receiving communities. Furthermore, teachers, social workers, resettlement specialists, mental/physical health care workers, law enforcement and others serving displaced persons often experience indirect (or secondary) trauma.

At AITM, we provide interactive seminars and resources to support individuals affected directly or indirectly by migration stressors, fostering healing, resilience and healthy community integration through shared experiences and expert guidance.

Addressing Trauma in Our Communities
AITM Seminars

The AITM seminar (and workbook) provides:

• an overview of the stressors and trauma-producing events of the migration experience (left behind, leaving home, the journey, resettlement, service providers and new community)

• an integrated framework for understanding the impact of trauma on the body, brain, beliefs and behavior of individuals and communities

• an understanding of the on-going harm that results from psychosocial harms created during the migration process

• practical tools for addressing trauma, repairing relationships and building resilience which can be used personally and professionally.

• access to follow-up coaching as needed.
